Introducing Naperville Saints Youth Football

We are pleased to announce that St. Raphael Football has recently partnered with the Bill George Youth Football League (BGYFL) starting in the Fall of 2019.

Bill George Youth Football shares a similar legacy to St. Raphael youth football establishing itself and becoming one of the predominate youth football leagues in the Chicagoland area since 1963.

The key to this partnership is not only based on legacy and our close geographical ties, but also the multiple levels of competition that BGFYL offers.

This allows St. Raphael Youth Football to operate in a very similar fashion as it has in the past, with a place for our in-house league players and more competitive teams, to compete against like talent levels in our neighboring communities.

Through our new partnership with BGYFL, St. Raphael Football will continue to be a cohesive community organization that will be known as the Naperville Saints, with multiple teams at each age level of competition.

We believe the best coaches are life coaches… not just football coaches.

“Football is more than a game; it moves you in a positive direction, developing a sense of team and a sense of community, which will help you take your place in the world as a dependable member of society.”  - Jim Brown, Founder, St. Raphael Football

Naperville Saints

Dear Parents,

Since 1963 St. Raphael Football has been a fixture in our community for young players to learn and develop playing the game of football. Jim Brown created a legacy that has impacted thousands of families over the past 6 decades and will continue to be a place where families will be able to turn to for all the benefits and enjoyment both on and off the field of this great sport.

As the sport has adapted over recent years, St. Raphael Youth Football has continued to adapt as well to ensure that it provides all its players and families the right environment to succeed and learn. In an effort to continue to enhance the experience for its players and families, St. Raphael Football is excited to announce it will be partnering with Bill George Youth Football started in the fall of 2019. Bill George Youth Football (BGFYL) shares a similar legacy to St. Raphael youth football establishing itself and becoming one of the predominate youth football leagues in the Chicagoland area since 1963. The key to this partnership is not only based on legacy and our close geographical ties, but also the multiple levels of competition that BGFYL offers. This allows St. Raphael Youth Football to operate in a very similar fashion as it has in the past with a place for our house league players and more competitive teams to compete against like talent levels in our neighboring communities.

Through our new partnership with BGYFL, St. Raphael football will be a cohesive community organization that will be known as the Naperville Saints, with multiple teams at each age level of competition.

As St. Raphael starts this partnership with BGFYL, community communication will be a high priority for the board of directors, and as an introduction to this new direction, we would like to invite our current players and families, as well as anyone else interested in hearing more about BGYFL and this opportunity to a town hall meeting located at Naperville City Hall on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the lunch room located at the bottom level of the building. A second town hall meeting will be scheduled with a date to be determined.

In conjunction with the town hall meetings, registration for the 2019 season will open on February 13, 2019 at 8 am.

We are excited about the upcoming season and look forward to answering any questions or concerns you may have. Please join us on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors

The Naperville Saints

Introduction - New SRF Board Members

Dear Parents,

Thank you again for your support and commitment to St. Raphael Youth Football!  This organization has been such an amazing youth football program because of the wonderful families, positive coaching, commitment to safety and our dedicated volunteers.  We truly couldn't run this program without you all so again, we thank you!

We are excited to announce the passing of the SRF torch to a new executive board.  We have been blessed with an executive board that has been committed to supporting this program and volunteering their time for numerous years!  I want to thank Paul O'Toole, Bill Takahashi, and Rob Ryan for your many years of service on the board.  Paul has been coaching and running the executive board as President for over 30 years!  Bill has been coaching, commissioner of our Catholic division and Vice President of SRF for the past 16 years and Rob has been sitting as the Treasurer on the SRF executive board for over 15 years!  These 3  men will be missed dearly and we are so incredibly proud to have had their volunteer service for so many years.

I am happy to introduce our new President, Tom Jurjovec!  Tom has been a Head Coach and Commissioner with the SRF program for multiple years and his children are currently playing football with SRF.  Mike Czuba will be the Vice President of the executive board and was a wonderful addition to our coaching staff in our travel feeder program.  Jay Naffziger will be our new Treasurer.  Jay has been coaching and a commissioner with SRF for many years and will be a huge addition to the executive board!

“Football is more than a game; it moves you in a positive direction, developing a sense of team and a sense of community, which will help you take your place in the world as a dependable member of society.” - Jim Brown, Founder, St. Raphael Football

Thank you all for making St. Raphael Football great and keeping Jim Brown's vision for the program going strong.

Letter from the President of USA Football and article

Dear Football Community:

As we continue to advance football through entry points and options, coach education and continuous improvements to the sport, lawmakers in select states have proposed legislation to ban tackle football for young athletes.

USA Football encourages discussion and debate regarding this topic. We welcome opportunities to demonstrate the football community’s shared commitment and consensus-building that benefits kids playing youth tackle football. Our collective, forward-thinking actions with support from other leaders across medicine and sports, has led to our game being taught and played safer than ever before with nationally endorsed standards.

I’m writing to share a Feb. 10 commentary published by the Minneapolis Star Tribune: 26 brain injury experts in neurosurgery, neuropsychology, neurology, neuropathology and public policy spanning 23 universities and hospitals in the United States and Canada shared the current state of scientific ambiguity as it relates to contact sports, and why more needs to be known before policy is enacted.

This information must be understood by those who seek to ban tackle football. We encourage you to share this news with your state and local legislators. Our team at USA Football will do the same.

We will continue to stress that Entry Points and Options + Coaching Education + Continuous Improvements within Football = Positive Experiences for young athletes and their families.

We have a unique opportunity to unify and defend football, its importance and the good work being done.

More to come.

Sincerely,

Scott Hallenbeck
CEO, USA Football
